Press Release: Broadview Press Announces New CEO
On September 29, 2026, a long-planned transaction closed, and academic publisher Broadview Press now has a new Chief Executive Officer and majority shareholder—Glenn Rollans.
Rollans is a distinguished veteran of the book trade—and a former president of the Association of Canadian Publishers. Over the course of his career, he’s held senior positions with publishers in all sectors of the industry, including Editor-in-Chief at Lone Pine, Partner in Les Éditions Duval (a K-12 publisher), and Director of the University of Alberta Press. He became co-owner of a small post-secondary textbook publisher (Brush Education) in 2011, and in 2021 he purchased Freehand Books (the literary press that had begun life in 2011 as a small literary wing of Broadview). Rollans has been a vigorous defender of author interests on the copyright front—and is highly knowledgeable about AI in all its forms, and about all the other issues facing publishers and authors today.
Stephen Latta, Marjorie Mather, and Christine Handley remain in place (respectively, as President; VP, Editorial and Production; and VP, Sales and Distribution), as do Broadview’s other 30 employees. Company founder and former CEO Don LePan will for a short period remain a part-time employee, and will continue on an ongoing basis as a member of Broadview’s Board of Directors.
Broadview Press was founded in 1985 and remains a fully independent academic publisher focused on the humanities and social sciences. Its employees work across Canada, with substantial offices in Calgary and Guelph and a head office and warehouse in Peterborough. The company publishes over 30 new titles a year and has a backlist of over 900 titles; more than half of its approximately $5 million in annual revenue is generated through export sales. On the occasion of the company’s 40th anniversary in 2025, Broadview was described as “a visionary publisher” (Pamela K. Gilbert of the University of Florida) and as “a beacon in publishing in the humanities and social sciences, and a model of excellence and resiliency in independent academic publishing” (Sue Donaldson & Will Kymlicka of Queen’s University).
